For those of you who are new to West Island School virtual Parent, Teacher Consultations (PTC) the principles of the consultation are generally the same as a traditional meeting only the attendance is virtual rather than in person:
Google Meet will be used for the virtual PTC.
Ensure you have the latest version of Chrome/Firefox when using and laptop or desktop or the latest version of the Google Meet app when using a mobile/tablet
It would help your child’s teachers if you were to change your Google Meet name to "Parent of student name"
Google Meet links will not be emailed to parents, links will appear in the appointments system at 2pm on the day of the PTC
All meetings will start and finish on time.
Interview slots will be for 5 minutes.
At the exact time of your scheduled appointment please click the teacher’s Google Meet link, you will then be held in the relevant Waiting Room until the teacher is available. At this point you will be admitted to the meeting
Each meeting will support multiple participants, so parents and their child can all use the same meeting link to join the meeting on separate laptops in different locations. Parents are encouraged to have their child(ren) with them.
Avoid arriving early, the teacher may still be in a meeting with other parents and their child
Arriving late to the virtual appointment will reduce the length of time with the teacher
Teachers will finish the meeting on time. We apologise if there is insufficient time for the meeting to close with the usual pleasantries
Avoid missing appointments as new appointments at another day or time cannot be accommodated
We apologise in advance for any technical difficulties that may occur and it will be important to read the following instructions in advance of the consultation to minimise any such difficulties.
(On a laptop or desktop)
Ensure you have the latest version of Chrome or Firefox web browser
All meetings will be conducted via video conference using Google Meet
Meetings are accessed through the Appointments Page
(If using an Android, iPhone or iPad/tablet)
Download and install the latest version of the Google Meet app from your device's app store or play store
Click the WISDOM VLE button
then the Appointment tile on the app
Login to wisdom.wis.edu.hk using your parent account
then click the Appointments icon in Wisdom
At exactly 2 pm on the day of the meeting a blue Google Meet link will appear in each of your appointments. (see image opposite)
Clicking this link will take you to the relevant teacher’s Meeting
Please click on the link during your scheduled appointments only. It may show an error when you try to access the appointment early
After pressing the teacher's Google meet link, you will be re-directed to Google Meet.
Press the "Join now" button
It would help your child’s teachers if you were to change your Google Meet name to "Parent of student name"
Press the "Ask to join" button and wait to be admitted into the meeting
Meetings will be brought to a conclusion by each teacher before the next parents arrive.
The teacher needs to stay in the meeting to meet the next set of parents so it is important that you leave the meeting room.
Please click "Leave Call" button to leave the meeting for the next parents.

All teachers will syncronise their laptops with the Hong Kong Observatory’s atomic clock, we would be grateful if you could do the same.
At the start of each meeting you will be asked to identify yourself and state which child you are the parent of. This may seem repetitive but it is important for our teachers to check that the person who is in their meeting is who they expect to be there.
Have your computer’s camera on and functioning for the duration of the Parent, Teacher Consultation.
During Parent, Teacher Consultation the Helpdesk will be manned please send an email to helpdesk@wis.edu.hk and support will be offered.
